EXCLUSIVE: AMC Moonhaven found her Bella Sway in Emma McDonald, Deadline Learned Exclusive. She will direct Peter Ocko’s utopian drama opposite Dominic Monaghan and Ayelet Zurer.
Created, produced and written by Ocko, Moonhaven speaks of a utopian colony on the Moon which could hold the keys to the preservation of life on Earth, which has become more and more perilous. The series, produced by AMC Studios, is slated to debut on AMC and AMC + next year.
Moonhaven follows Bella Sway (McDonald), a lunar cargo pilot and smuggler 100 years in the future who finds himself accused of a crime and stranded on Moonhaven, a utopian community set on a 500 square mile Garden of Eden built on the Moon to find solutions to the problems that will soon end civilization on Mother Earth. A skeptic in Heaven, Bella is embroiled in a plot to take control of the artificial intelligence responsible for Moonhaven’s miracles and teams up with a local detective to stop the forces who want to destroy Earth’s last hope before they are. themselves destroyed.

Ocko will serve as showrunner and executive producer with Deb Spera.
Bella Sway, who is a Han Solo-esque rogue character, is also a Huge War veteran. When she finds herself embroiled in a plot about the Moonhaven utopia, she learns that she has deeper connections to the place than she initially thought.
McDonald is a young British actress who started her professional career with Pride and Prejudice at the Sheffield Crucible Theater. A member of the Watermill Ensemble, the actress has taken on a number of major Shakespearean roles for the company, ranging from Lady Macbeth to Titania on tours of various productions across the UK.
