We know the Xbox Games With Gold program isn’t as tasty as it used to be, with most of the effort and focus now firmly entrenched in the boots of Xbox Game Pass, but that doesn’t mean you should ignore the free offers that come in every month. As we come halfway through July 2021, it’s this Games With Gold program that happily changes free love, allowing Xbox gamers to download 2 more Xbox games for free.
So far, in July 2021, Conker: Live & Reloaded and the rather brilliant Planet Alpha have both been stripped of their prices., with Xbox players with valid Xbox Live Gold subscriptions able to download both games for free. While Planet Alpha remains free however, Conker is set to go up in price, but that means 2 more games will be stripped of theirs.
These games are Rock of Ages 3: Make & Break and the classic Xbox 360 collection from Midway Arcade Origins.
Rock of Ages 3: Make & Break first released on Xbox One around this time last year, but 12 months later it’s now being offered for nothing. A quirky little affair, Make & Break never quite lived up to the hype that was found with previous Rock of Ages titles, and while our full review of the game spoke of a fun and humorous story, along with great Rock of Ages gameplay, a slew of glitches, a clunky level editor, and uninspiring levels took it all down by one or two.
But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t play it and now that the Xbox Games With Gold program is providing it for free until mid-August, you’d be crazy not to download a download and give it a small roll.
Another free title is that of Midway Arcade Origins. This first was released years ago on Xbox 360, but will be playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S thanks to the magic of backward compatibility. And if you’re looking for a collection of classics, Midway has you covered.
Usually priced at £ 14.99, this will give you access to over 30 titles from the golden age of arcade – games like Lair of the Vultures and Spy Hunter II for example. With local co-op play, those nice Xbox and Gamerscore achievements, and full leaderboard support, we’re pretty sure Midway Arcade Origins will be able to sort you out with some fun play options.
Of course, these free games only exist if you’re the lucky holder of an Xbox Live Gold membership, and you’ll only have until the end of the month to download Midway (and a bit longer for Rock of Ages). We recommend that you go to the Xbox Store now, show that card at the door, and bring your gifts home before you forget. It’s also not like you have to play them right now – just save them for a rainy day!
