By Norris Hall: My dear friends and readers: Sandra and I wish you all the fulfillment of a promise of the Manifesto that was made to us over two thousand years ago: Peace and Good Will.
It has been a difficult year for humanity all over the world. And even so, when our very survival depends on our unity, the seeds of religious and political discord threaten our survival on this abused Earth, our habitat.
I contented myself with making my small contribution to the national political discourse. I am grateful for your readership, support and even disagreements regarding my comments. This is the only way democracy can serve the best interests of the nation and our people.
I thank my friends in the Diaspora and at Breaking Belize News (BBN) for providing me with a platform to share my perspective on national issues. I am also grateful to the few friends I have left in government who have been mature enough to engage on these issues.
I took no joy in the public disagreement I had with our Prime Minister. Disagreements can be healthy. How we resolve our disagreements is what matters. It is important for all of us to remember that power is a powerful aphrodisiac which can be dangerous.
I am happy to have been able to have a cordial conversation with our Prime Minister in an informal setting and without the usual protocols. I am not one for the latter but I have a sense of the occasion.
I assured the Prime Minister, that as a lifelong supporter of the United People’s Party and as a journalist, I reserve the right to call this government, MY government, whenever I deem it necessary to be in disagreement and in the absence of any mature debate from the opposition. The PUP seems to be drifting to the right, while I remain center-left in the interests of the equitable distribution of the nation’s wealth.
I will be taking a break from my weekly comments during this Christmas time.
Sandra and I wish you and your families our best wishes for a very happy and peaceful Christmas and a fulfilling and fulfilling year 2022.
