MANILA, Philippines – A lawmaker reminded former Senator Bongbong Marcos that he is not a millennial – or people of a younger generation – so he knows what happened during the martial law regime of his father.
During the Pandesal Forum on Thursday, Vice President and Representative of Buhay Lito Atienza said Marcos was 64 years old, briefing him on the atrocities committed during the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
Atienza even noted that Marcos Jr., before fleeing the country during the People’s Power Revolution of 1986, wore combat gear as if he was ready to fight his fellow Filipinos to ensure his father stays in power.
âBongbong Marcos is not a millennial. He’s a 64-year-old man today. He was a 26 year old man during martial law. So when they fled the crowds of Filipinos rushing (towards) Malacañang, he knew what was going on. He knew they had fled. They escaped the wrath of the Filipinos, âAtienza said.
“So don’t tell me you didn’t know what was going on, you knew what was going on, you now know if you haven’t noticed the details of martial rule, the abuses and the effects on our economic condition, eh ngayon alam mo na. You are not a millennial. You are also a 64 year old man, you know, “he added.
According to Atienza, he can understand why some millennials are influenced by the Marcos’ claims that their patriarch’s reign was the golden age in Philippine history, as some of them were not yet born in that time.
“” Young millennials, I don’t blame you for not knowing what happened during martial law because you weren’t really aware, many of you weren’t even born, but Bongbong Marcos is not a millennial, âhe explained.
âAng sigaw no’ng araw, sobra na, tama na, palitan na. Do you have your friend, you were called to paumanhin, your nawalan father from kapatid, anak, your friends in the army? They’re all dead now, and you’re telling parents to forget about it? ” he added.
(The cry back then was enough, time is up, change direction. It is still the cry until today. Please apologize, what about those who lost brothers and sisters, children and young people who perished fighting the military regime? Are you all dead now, and you tell parents to forget it?)
Atienza and his running mate, presidential candidate and Senator Manny Pacquiao, stressed the importance for young Marcos to apologize for his family’s role during the time of martial law.
This was after family members including Marcos and his sister, Senator Imee Marcos, insisted that the martial law period was a good time for the country.

For him, Atienza said he had already forgiven the late dictator, but his family must admit the wrongs committed during the dark part of the country’s history.
He said such an admission is essential so that the Marcos – if elected to power – do not think the rule of martial law is actually good and repeat it.
âI have forgiven the family, but I will never forget what martial law has done to my own life and the lives of millions of Filipinos. So don’t deny, don’t revise history so that we can learn from it and you don’t repeat it, âsaid Atienza.
âDahil kung walang pagsisisi, ‘pag nanalo ito, baka mag-martial law rin ito, dahil nakalusot eh at saka nakagawa pala ng mabuti. Hindi Bongbong, masama ang dulot ng abuseo ng martial rule, and your father was the architect of it all, âhe added.
(Because if they don’t apologize, maybe if he manages to win, he could also declare martial law because he would think it worked well. But no, Bongbong, the military regime has brought a lot. bad things, and your father was the architect of it all.)
