Out of print: Advertising book on the golden age of sneakers


Sneaker Freaker has teamed up with publishing house Phaidon to release Sold out: the golden age of sneaker advertising, a 720-page tribute to vintage print ads from some of the world’s best-known sneaker brands. Comprised of over 900 listings, the hardcover book is a true tome in sneaker history, backed by nearly a decade of research and discovery.

Thirteen brands are featured in the book: adidas, ASICS, Brooks, Converse, Jordan Brand, LA Gear, New Balance, Nike, PONY, PRO-Keds, PUMA, Reebok and Saucony, while other brands like Vans and FILA also appear briefly. . Ads included a range from iconic first Air Jordan campaigns by Michael Jordan to classic Nike ACG posters, memorable Larry Bird and Magic Johnson Converse Weapon ads, Michael Jackson’s appearance in support of LA. Gear and New Balance’s infomercials that Aimé Leon Dore has shown a penchant for SEO in his own campaigns. Most of the books spotlight advertisements from the 70s to 2000s, with the exception of a handful of original Converse Chuck Taylor All Star commercials from the 30s.

Sold out: the golden age of sneaker advertising releases via the Phaidon online store on October 20 and is priced at US $ 69.95. A special edition with alternate cover will arrive with the standard retail version.
