For anyone born after 2000, it will be difficult to understand the excitement felt at the turn of the new millennium.

If you were born in the 90s, 80s and before, the year 2000 looked more like a date used in future science fiction than a place to live.

The new millennium was so anticipated that pop superstar Prince released the song “1999” – a premonition of what the celebrations might look like – in 1982.

And in North Wales, Rhyl town center was a place many chose to welcome as the new century dawned.
