UK opens art exhibition dedicated to Spain’s Golden Age

Bishop Auckland, United Kingdom, October 13 (EFE) .- The United Kingdom opened its first exhibition dedicated to the art, history and culture of Spain with an exhibition of Spanish art of the age gold at Auckland Castle in the heart of County Durham in the North East of England.

The art exhibition is presented in the majestic Bishop’s Auckland Palace and is part of the ‘Auckland Project’ which aims to fuel long term change and regeneration with the use of art, faith and faith. patrimony.

The reason we have a Spanish gallery here is because at Auckland Castle there is a very important and famous set of paintings of the Patriarchs of Israel by Francisco de Zurbarán and I wanted something that develops the theme of why they were in the castle. ”Jonathan Ruffer, founder of Project Auckland, told Efe.

The Spanish Gallery begins with a collection of masterpieces by Francisco de Zurbarán, Jacob and his Twelve Sons, which have been on display in the Auckland Castle Dining Room for over 250 years.

“I want the gallery and these images to represent Spanish art in the North East of England,” Ruffer said.

The exhibition tells the story of Spanish art from the Golden Age to the 16th and 17th centuries and explores how artists expressed the tension between man’s longing for eternity and the obvious transience of life.

“The Spanish people were concerned with eternity, but everywhere they looked they saw the ephemeral, they saw things crumbling. It is an experience that is happening across Europe today and is certainly true in Britain. We take a look at some of the most communicative ideas that have ever been achieved using a paintbrush, ”said Ruffer.

“The Spanish Golden Age is one of the most important artistic phenomena that ever existed and the reason is that it was the painting of the heart that suddenly and very quickly became a painting of high technical quality as well, ”he added.

The exhibition will be open to the public on October 15. EFE
